I have been investigating the use of live rock in reef tanks, what i have found out is that you need to use have a minimum of 1lb to a maximum of 1.75lb per gallon of water. Most sites i have visited recommend 1.35-1.5lb per gallon. I have also found out that it does not all have to be live rock about 1/3 can be base rock which will eventually become live. From what i can gather the more porous the better although i think that needs to be looked into further.

Anyway my point about this in my circumstances is that i can purchace about 14lb of rock before setting much up as it will not be live which suits me as it fits in with me having to build up slowly.
